Our Journey to Lia
As some of you know, I am an occupational therapist. I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of children some of whom are non-verbal. As you can imagine communication is difficult. Typically when working with these kiddos we use picture communication cards. As Jason and I are trying to prepare for Lia, I have come up with some communication books and schedules to assist Lia during her transition into our family. These tools will allow Lia to communicate her needs to us. The schedules will help ease her anxiety as she can look to them to see what will be happening in her day (grooming, meals, bath time, bed time, exc....)and they are adjustable. I will be making these available to all as a way to raise funds for Lia's adoption. Check them out at http://bringingliahome.blogspot.com/

"... Once our eyes are opened,we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act ..." -- ~Proverbs 24:12

Congratulations on all of this crazy adoption "stuff" :-) Lia is just adorable!!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to tell you, that we also started ALL paperwork & homestudy AFTER being amazingly connected to our little boy. It was like we were working from bottom up....but it all went so fast!! It was crazy..but we loved it!! We have been home 10 months with our little boy...It is amazing!! We also had 3 bio children when we started the whole process. It was funny..because people would say "do you have this form done yet? No. "do you get that form back from USCIS yet?" No. "did you start your homestudy yet?" No. But we would say...Hey, but we have OUR BOY!!!!
Oh, I'm excited for you!!!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteSaw your post to Waitingchildren and wanted to let you know that you are NOT alone! Many many people have found their daughter first and then done all the paperwork. I know its scary and seems to be impossible but you guys can do it!
Lia is beautiful! We adopted Little T in June of 2008 when she was 26 months old. She was (and still is) non verbal but she is now babbling some and starting to immitate!! She goes to OT and PT which is helping.
Good luck! Before you know it you'll have sweet Lia in your arms!
Hugs,
Carla
